2014-2015 Title I High-Progress School
Groves Elementary earned the distinction of being a 2014-2015 Title I High-Progress School. To earn this distinction, a Title I school must be in the top 25% in annual improvement and/or schools in the top 25% of those demonstrating ability to close performance gaps based on system safeguards. Each school is compared to a unique group of 40 other public schools throughout the state that closely matches that school on the following characteristics: campus type, campus size, percent economically disadvantaged students, mobility rates, and percent of English language learners. Schools that achieve the top 25% in annual improvement have outperformed their peers in terms of growth in student achievement from the prior school year.
Texas State Capitol Flag
This summer our Principal, Mrs. Hammersmith contacted State Reprepsentative Allan Ritter's office to request a Texas Flag that had been flown over the state capitol. Pictured is this flag which is now displayed in the front office area of the school.
We would like to say "Thank You" to Sheryl Melancon-Phillips, owner of Dairy Queen in Groves, and her son, Julian Ryan Melancon, who manages Dairy Queen, who proudly donated the framing of the flag. Sheryl has owned Groves Dairy Queen since 2000 and also supports Groves Elementary's Star Student each 6 weeks.
There is a certificate of authentification also mounted inside the framing that certifies that this flag was indeed flown over the State Capitol in Austin on June 15, 2012 and was then donated by State Representative, Allan B. Ritter.
Please stop by and see our flag when you are on campus...we love it and think it is gorgeous.
